The Diviner Lunar Radiometer launched on June 18th, 2009 onboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and has been collecting science data since July 6th, 2009. Diviner's Compositional Investigation will use multichannel (0.3 - 300 μm) spectral observations to constrain the composition of the lunar surface. Diviner has three channels near 8-microns (7.55-8.05, 8.1-8.4, and 8.4-8.7 μm) and is the first lunar orbiting instrument to identify the mid-infrared emissivity maximum, Christiansen feature, which is a good compositional identifier. Diviner is also be the first instrument to measure lunar thermal emission between 13 and 400 μm using multiple channels (13-23, 25-41, 50-100, and 100-400 μm). These unique data, along with Diviner broadband solar reflectance measurements (03-2.8 μm), are sensitive to different aspects of composition. In three months of operations (July to October, 2009), Diviner has already observed the lunar surface with local times between 23:30 to 05:40 (nighttime) and 11:30 to 17:40 (daytime). This early dataset includes lunar local times (10:00 to 14:00) near the subsolar point when the Compositional Investigation dataset has highest fidelity and lowest uncertainty. This presentation will highlight early Compositional Investigation science results.
