Low gas temperatures together with high density within low mass pre-stellar cores enhance deuteration, and depletion. However, few few molecules like N2H+ is known to remain undepleted towards the inner most regions of such cores. While the high mass pre-stellar/cluster stage in itself is hard to find, their early phase chemistry is even lesser understood. We observed the N2H+ 3--2, and its deuterated form with the SMA to trace the conditions within a sample of potential high mass pre-cluster cores. Assuming that this sample represents the earliest stages in high mass star formation, we will present results based on the high angular resolution observations that constrain their initial conditions.
