The preliminary results from FIRAS/COBE (Far Infrared Absolute Spectrometer/Cosmic Background Explorer) and the available anisotropy in the intensity of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) for an angular separation of 1° place new constraints on Superconducting Cosmic Strings (SCS) and their cosmological evolution independent of numerical simulations. The early FIRAS results and the latest PSR 1937+21 timing measurements converge to the same upper limits on Gμ. The limits continue to descend but the breaking point is not yet reached. We wait for the final FIRAS results.
