I recently received a copy of a letter written by Edward Walter Maunder to his children while in Labrador to observe the 1905 August eclipse (which like Truro was clouded out). This eclipse was to be the last for which an expedition (to Spain) was organised by the BAA until 1999 August in Truro, Cornwall. For various reasons Edward and Annie were unable to join the BAA expedition, and originally meant to stay at home. However an invitation was received from the Canadian government to act as an official observer, with expenses paid.
