The international conference The origin and evolution of cosmic magnetism, held in Bologna (Italy) from August 29th to September 2nd, 2005, brought together theorists and observers working on magnetic fields to discuss and develop related issues. Since cosmic magnetism has been recognized as one of five key science projects for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), one of the goals of the conference was to determine how observations with this new generation radio telescope, in cooperation with other future facilities, will provide a deeper insights into the role of magnetic fields in the cosmological process and in the structures that we observe today.
