Results are reported from statistical analyses of the light curve published by the American Association of Variable Star Observers for the dwarf nova SS Cyg during the period 1896-1979. The data are presented in extensive tables and graphs and characterized in detail. It is found that the dynamical behavior of the time series cannot be explained in terms of linear models, there being both a long-range memory effect (over 10 cycles) and a short-term dependence (over at least three cycles). Also observed is a bimodal distribution of the mass accreted per outburst, with nonperiodic dynamics and an apparent positive correlation with the averaged cycle length. The long-term outburst behavior is tentatively attributed to variations in the mass-transfer rate from the (presumably magnetically active) red-dwarf companion star.
