Scientific paper

This paper examines causes for the continuous renovation of the earth surface and the mechanisms responsible for this process. Particular attention is given to recent findings on the dynamics of the lithosphere and to data obtained by seismographic instruments concerning the ongoing horizontal stretching and compression of the lithosphere. A geodynamic model of the earth is proposed which agrees with the most recent seismographic measurements and with data obtained by other geophysical and geological methods.
