The observed pattern of the global axisymmetrical (zonal) magnetic field was investigated by the adaptive processing method. The zonal magnetic field consists of two components which essentially differ from each other. These components may have been regarded as two wave modes of the Sun's magnetic field generator. The first mode involves a greater part of the energy of the magnetic field and manifests a regular cyclic evolution of the field. The second mode represents nonregular poleward propagating waves and is excited as a succession of separate impulses which are accompanied by synchronous short-time disturbances of the first mode. The duration of these impulses is about 2 - 3 years. This property of the zonal magnetic field evolution suggests a non-linear interaction between two modes.
