The problem of disintegration of the cometary nuclei due to the tides produced by Jupiter is considered. The dynamics of the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 is studied in details in this connection. We computed orbital solution for fragments of SL9 with impact times, based on the timing of observed impact phenomena in July, 1994. Using this solution the estimates of nucleus dimensions and rotation velocity before the disintegration of the comet have been obtained. The possibility of disintegration of the parent body by stages is investigated. Our results allow to assume that disintegration process began at 50 - 60 minutes before the perijove time of fragment H. Therefore the diameter of parent body can be estimated about 3.50 km.
