Probability densities for encounters between close binaries and single stars with specified binding-energy transitions are determined for a system of stars with equal masses. Equations are obtained which govern the velocity distribution function of single and binary stars as well as the semimajor-axis distribution function of close binaries. The effect of close binaries on single-star dispersion from open clusters is analyzed.
