On Aug. 10, 1972, a large meteor streaking across the western skies was observed from Utah to Canada. This paper describes the determination of the orbit of the meteor. Observational data were provided by a space sensor complemented by transit sightings made by a surveyor. The data were processed by a batch least-squares orbit determination program to fit an earth centered orbit. The heliocentric orbit was derived from this earth centered orbit. The calculated deceleration of the meteor was used in a companion paper to estimate the mass of the meteor.
