New experimental data and theoretical results are presented on the chemistry and thermodynamics of the ionosphere and the thermosphere. The studies deal with energy input, minor constituents, and transport processes, and point out the interrelations between these processes. Some of the topics covered include: energy input to the lower thermosphere, photoelectron fluxes and electron gas heating at the lower ionosphere, meteor train ion chemistry, nitric oxide density determination from rocket experiments at the geomagnetic equator, space and time variations of large-scale air motions in the lower thermosphere, daily oscillations of the midlatitude thermosphere studied by incoherent scatter, north-south asymmetry of geomagnetic and tropospheric events, and magnetic storm dynamics of the thermosphere. Individual items are announced in this issue.
