The authors explore the consequences of the hypothesis that temporary storage of orbital angular momentum in an accretion disk does lead to dynamical mass transfer in cataclysmic binaries and does not lead to coalescence. They find that systems coming into contact longward of the classical period gap undergo dynamical mass transfer. In some cases, systems undergo a series of dynamical mass transfer episodes. These episodes typically terminate in stable mass transfer at periods shortward of the usual period gap, i.e., Pb < 2 hr. Few, if any, systems are expected longward of the usual period gap, i.e., Pb > 3 hr, and the origin of the observed long-period systems is left unanswered.
