The dynamical friction produced by the condensation of a narrow infinitely massive tail of background dust behind a gravitating body moving in a Newtonian universe is investigated theoretically, extending the analysis of Hadrava (1983) to determine the cutoff radius for dynamical friction due to nonrelativistic particles. The perturbation introduced into the Newtonian cosmological model by the body is found to be negligible at velocities much greater than 45 km/s, assuming a mass of 1.4 x 10 to the 11th solar mass and H = 100 km/s, conditions satisfied in earlier stages of cosmological evolution. The v/c horizon radius is shown to be the appropriate cutoff radius for dynamical friction.
