It is found that sudden changes in vacuum energy in matter Lagrangian are cancelled dynamically by the role of the scalar field in the induced gravity, uniquely determining the scalar potential as $V(\phi) = (\alpha/2)\ln(\phi/\mu)^{2}$. Throughout the dynamical cancellation of a sudden change in vacuum energy, the total dark energy density remains unchanged decreasing the gravitational constant. It is shown that the scalar field is stable around a constant scalar field which satisfies the relation, $\rho_{m}-3p_{m}+4\rho_{\Lambda}=\alpha$, between the matter density $\rho_{m}$, matter pressure $p_{m}$ and the dark energy density $\rho_{\Lambda}$ which depends on the scalar field.
