While > 250 extrasolar planets orbiting main sequence stars have been discovered, the destiny of planetary systems through the late stages of evolution of their host stars is very uncertain. The recent discovery of a number of white dwarfs with circumstellar dust disks has shed some light on the topic, especially since the composition of dust appears to be asteroidal, rather than interstellar, in nature. We recently identified another white dwarf, SDSS1228+1040, with both a gaseous and dusty circumstellar disk - one of only 3 such systems known. The mid-IR and 24 micron spectral energy distribution is well modelled by the standard flat dusty disk model in the IRAC bands, but the 16 micron flux density is approximately three times higher than predicted by this model. The most likely explanation is the presence of a significant silicate spectral feature, as seen in a number of other dusty white dwarfs.
