The use of underground facilities, such as DUMAND (the Deep Underground/Underwater Muon and Neutrino Detector facility), to detect gamma rays and neutrinos is studied. The generation of gamma rays and energetic neutrinos in a cosmic source is discussed. Muon generations by gamma rays and by neutrinos are examined, and the muon flux induced by the gamma rays and neutrinos are calculated and compared. It is determined that an underground detector can record gamma rays and neutrinos from flat-spectrum sources.
