The updated status of the DRIFTEMSI project, a campaign of manned Mars mission simulation, is presented. In this project, a mixed crew of six will be isolated for two years on a boat drifting through the Arctic ice pack during 1993-1996, the 100th anniversary of Nansen's voyage. The challenges posed by maintaining telecommunications with the crew at polar latitudes and the projected scientific program are discussed.
