Solitary drift vortices in plasma are modeled by Rossby vortices on a shallow fast-rotating fluid. Anticyclones, cyclones, and cyclone-anticyclone dipoles are obtained. The vortices of large size (gamma about 3r sub R) are always only anticyclones. Vortices with sizes of the order of the Rossby length (gamma about 1.5 r sub R) are cyclones, anticyclones, and dipoles, usually accompanied by small eddies of opposite sign. The countermovement interaction of these structures was realized. The traveling of the dipole vortices across the polar region of the vessel modeling homogeneous plasma conditions is observed. The possibility of anomalous resistance arising as a result of electron deceleration by such vortices in isothermal magnetized plasma is discussed.
