The Doppler widths of the lines of the CN violet system have been determined in the 4139-4215 A wavelength region in the solar atmosphere. The profile fitting, saturation effects, and depth of line formation are discussed. The results show that the lines of the 0-1 band form higher and of the 2-3 band lower down in the solar atmosphere. The Doppler widths of the 0-1, 1-2, and 2-3 bands increase linearly with equivalent widths up to roughly 20 mA.
