We present phase-resolved spectroscopic observations of the black hole binary GX339-4, obtained with the 6.5-m Clay telescope at Las Campanas Observatory in June 2006. Apparent in the spectrum are emission lines from H, HeI, and FeII,and a possible P-Cygni profile indicates the presence of an absorbing wind. Several of the lines are obviously double-peaked.
Having observed incomplete S-waves (emission line radial velocity curves),we are able to rule out a 14.8 hour orbital period at high confidence. We will present low resolution Doppler maps of this system and compare to other sources from our campaign to construct modulation tomograms of a comprehensive selection of XRBs in selected spectral lines in order to study the geometry of the accretion flow in systems that contain NSs and BHs. To date we have observations of two BH and 3 NS systems. This research is funded by NSF grant AST-0507637 awarded to the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
