Active Galactic Nuclei: Radiation Mechanisms

Scientific paper

A study of Doppler-boosting effect on the fluxes of active galactic nuclei (AGN) with relativistic bulk motion is presented. Four AGN samples (the BL Lacertae object sample, the core-dominated high-polarization quasar sample, the core-dominated low-polarization quasar sample, and the lobe-dominated quasar sample) presented by Ghisellini et al. (1993), are employed. All plots of radio flux versus optical flux, corrected by Doppler factors, for the four samples exhibit an obvious correlation between the two quantities, in agreement with what would be predicted by the synchrotron emission mechanism. The results show that the Doppler-boosting effect is indeed obvious for AGN with relativistic bulk motion.
