The last evolutionary stage of the magnetic cycle is examined on the basis of recent observations of polar faculae. It is concluded that polar faculae represent the final evolutionary stage of the magnetic cycle or a cycle of active-region formation sharply distinguished morphologically, dynamically, and probably physically from the new cycle.
