We present here an explanation of the erroneous interpretations of
spectroscopic sodium dayglow measurements which led to a large diurnal
variation. In fact, the diurnal variation is proved to be either small
or nonexistent. The result is confirmed by balloon-borne experimental
measurements of the sodium twilight and dayglow intensities.
