The Ring effect is investigated spectropolarimetrically using the principle of the line method (compression between the line center and its continuum). A survey of spectropolarimetric observations for the zenith during daytime using the H-beta Fraunhofer line indicates that the filling-in effect exhibits various strengths of depolarization depending on the time of day (scattering angle). The observations reveal both polarization enhancements and reductions within the Fraunhofer lines according to the solar zenith angle. A model is proposed which provides good quantitative agreement with the observations.
