An even predominance of n-paraffins in the range from C 13 to C 21 was observed in several sediment samples of an age span from 2000 to 9000 years from the Persian Gulf. Since an even predominance of n-paraffins in this range has so far not been found in biological material it is suggested that a reduction of the accompanying n-fatty acids may have given rise to this peculiar n-paraffin distribution.
