Using the all-sky radio continuum map at 408 MHz of Haslam et al. (1981a,b), the model of the large scale distribution of synchrotron emissivity on the galactic plane derived in a previous paper (Phillipps et al., 1981) is extended to three dimensions. It is found that the observed map cannot be accounted for entirely in terms of a distribution of emissivity with distance from the plane that is the same throughout the Galaxy. A distribution whose characteristic scale length varies as exp (R-10)8) where R is the galactocentric distance gives a better fit. In addition to the radio disk a nonspherical halo of emission extending approximately 10 kpc from the plane with an emissivity less than approximately 10% of that in the plane is required to account for the high latitude brightness temperature. The main difference between the observed and modelled distributions of radio emission is the broader observed distribution about the plane in the second quadrant of galactic longitude. This is believed to be due to a local arm which does not appear in the unfolding.
