We have found a significant asymmetry in the number of faint blue stars observed on either side of the Sun-Center line. The excess in the star counts is 30% to 40% between the fields at l=20° to 45° and their complementary fields at l=340° to 315° at b=+30°. No comparable excess is found at higher latitudes (40° or 50°) or in the anticenter direction. The excess in the star counts increases with fainter magnitudes and with decreasing longitude. The stars responsible for the excess are apparently 1-2 kpc above the stellar "bar" in the disk. A vertical extent of the bar this high seems unlikely; although, the excess in the counts could be due to a bar-induced `wake'. Alternatively, the asymmetry may indicate that the thick disk/inner halo is triaxial. We propose to obtain spectra for classification and radial velocities of the faint blue stars (17-19 mag) in the l=20° to 45° direction where the excess in counts is observed. The complementary fields at l=340° to 315° will be observed at CTIO. The purpose of our proposed observations is to identify the stellar population responsible for the asymmetry and determine its kinematics.
