The absolute luminosity-luminosity class relation is derived for late-type galaxies in a distance-limited sample of 38 nearby groups whose distances to the Virgo I cluster are obtained via the color-magnitude relation for early-type galaxy members. This Virgo-calibrated relation is compared with the locally calibrated relation of Sandage and Tammann (1974) to determine the distance modulus of the Virgo I cluster. A mean distance modulus of 31.26 + or - 0.16 is computed for the Virgo I cluster, along with a Hubble constant of 59 + or - 8 km/s per Mpc.
