The dispersion properties of the envelope period of damped quasi-periodic VLF-emissions in the magnetosphere are analyzed, and it is shown that the frequency dependence of this period is nonlinear and is well described by a third-degree polynomial. Experimentally observed damped quasi-periodic emissions are described well by the theory of relaxation oscillations of the cyclotron instability of the electron component of the radiation belts. It is suggested that these emissions are generated through the impact excitation of a magnetospheric resonator formed by a magnetic flux tube and through the subsequent damping of natural relaxation oscillations.
