The data of trigonometric parallaxes determined for the right ascension (alpha) and declination values published by the U.S. Naval Observatory and Van Vleck Observatory are discussed. It is found that the absolute difference shows a very similar periodic variation with alpha for both observations. This variation is shown to be due to errors in pi(y) and to be related to the current practice of maximizing the parallax factor for parallax determination in right ascension. Therefore, if possible, the number of observations where the parallax factor in declination is maximized should be increased.
