Discriminant analysis is introduced, and results of application to delta Scuti variables, nonvariable stars, and the Oosterhoff groups of globular clusters are shown. Discriminant analysis weighs and linearly combines parameters so that groups become as statistically distinct as possible. Application to delta Scuti and nonvariables does not give good results. Separation of globular clusters containing RR Lyrae variables into two Oosterhoff groups is found to depend on metallicity. A 100% separation of 33 clusters with known radial velocity is achieved.
