We report the discovery of a supersoft X-ray source, RX J0513.9-6951, in the LMC. The object was found by a search for time variability in the ecliptic pole regions using the ROSAT All Sky Survey data. The new source brightened by a factor of about 20 during a 10 day period and shows an X-ray spectrum very similar to the supersoft LMC sources CAL 83 and RX J0527.8-6954. The spectrum can be very well described by black-body radiation with a temperature of 20 - 50eV absorbed through the interstellar medium with a column density of (0.5 - 1.5) x 10 exp 21/sq cm. The column density indicates LMC membership.
