A large number of galactic X-ray sources have been interpreted as being powered by accretion from a disk onto a rotating magnetized neutron star or white dwarf. In the present paper, exact solutions are given for a static magnetic dipole field in two-dimensional and three-dimensional space confined by an infinitesimally thin diamagnetic concentric disk. Whereas the three-dimensional problem is relevant for accretion onto compact stars, the two-dimensional problem is far easier to solve and turns out to be a fair approximation. Computer drawings illustrate the field line geometry.
