Scans of the Venusian surface transmitted by the Venera 9 and 10 space probes contained small defects which were removed by computer processing of the video signals. Techniques are described which were used to remove vertical bands produced on the images by telemetered digital data. These techniques include the construction of photographic montages, additive corrections to the brightness of image elements on montaged photographs, digital retouching, and smoothing of 'mosaic' images. A portion of a scan before and after the application of these procedures is presented to illustrate their effectiveness.
