A digitally controlled time gate has been developed for the Ondrejov Observatory satellite-detection laser radar, and tests have shown it capable of 1.0-microsec accuracies, by contrast with the 100-microsec levels previously achievable. In addition, the digitally controlled gate simplifies operation of the laser radar and increases its range by a factor of approximately 2.0. The time gate's input is the same punched tape that controls the radar mount.
