Calculations of the dispersive spreading of a plasma column oriented at an angle (e.g., 10 deg) to a magnetic field in an external electric field in the ionosphere are presented with allowance for currents in the background plasma. It is shown that this spreading leads to a shift in the position of the maximum plasma-density gradient as compared with that calculated for purely diffusive spreading. The results are of interest in connection with the interpetation of radar echoes from meteor trails.
