Mechanisms of the Biermann type for magnetic field generation are discussed. Diffusion currents of electrons are responsible for these processes. They appear in the interstellar medium wherever electronic temperature and density gradient vectors are not parallel. An example of such currents at the border area between hot interstellar gas and atomic condensation is discussed, and a few other examples are also mentioned. Magnetic fields generated in this way can serve as seed magnetic fields for further dynamo amplification. The processes discussed are also essential for a better understanding of early stages of the galaxy evolution.
