It is shown that the difference between the NH3 (1.1) and CS (J = 1-0) charts for the dark cloud L 183 is due not to the specific features of the excitation of the corresponding transitions but to the chemical fractionation of molecular species. This fractionation may in turn be due to different ages of the gas clumps: 100,000 to 200,000 yr for those seen in CS and 300,000 yr for those seen in NH3.
