Results are presented of X-ray analyses and differential thermal analyses of a diamond-enriched fraction isolated from the Efremovka carbonaceous chondrite CV3, together with analogous data obtained on several natural and synthetic diamonds. It was found that the diamond particles from the Efremovka diamond-enriched fraction (about 0.2 wt pct of the original chondrite mass) are monocrystalline, and are oxidizable at relatively low temperature. It is concluded that the chondrite diamond particles were formed in a rapid nonequilibrium process from carbon atoms in gaseous state. This process could have taken place under the effect of shock waves in an intense stellar wind ejected by an OB star at the initial stage of helium burning in the convective core.
