The feasibility of evaluating the characteristic parameter of the localized irregularity of electron density in the E-region according to measurements of the group delay of sounding signals (backscattering and oblique-transmission signals) is considered in the framework of a numerical formulation of the multifrequency radio-sounding problem. The inverse problem of multifrequency oblique sounding is solved using the separation of variables with respect to coordinates and the construction of an iterative sequence of estimates of the characteristic parameters.
