A new solar Hα flare patrol system was installed at National Astronomical Observatory, Mitaka and has been in operation since September, 1991. The new system consists of a φ 4 cm doublet, an Hα Lyot filter (pass band =0.5 Å), a 2/3 inch CCD camera, and a digital image analysis and storage unit. In the new system, Hα flares can be detected and be analyzed in real time by a computer. The authors describe the performance of the system and the methods of Hα flare detection and analysis.
