We are developing a new photometric index using the Ca II H and K lines. This should provide a relatively reddening-free temperature index over a wide spectral range. We have fabricated filters centered independently on the two lines with 3 nm wide transmission curves. We have obtained spectra on field stars over a wide range of spectral types using the 1.2-m telescope at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO) to spectrophotometrically examine the expected results from the filters. We will present the index resulting from our spectral observations and discuss how it compares to existing spectral indices.
