Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy is under development for use on
Mars landers/rovers for the stand-off analysis of geological samples.
Targeted samples include rocks, soils, ices, and ice/dust mixtures.
Preliminary field tests with a compact LIBS instrument have been
conducted.
