The vanadium abundance of the solar photosphere has been derived on the basis of 39 line profiles. The effect of hyperfine structure was removed from the calculations by comparing estimates from three different solar atmospheric models: the Holweger-Mueller model (HOLMU 1974), the Harvard Smithsonian model (HSRA 1971), and the model of Vernazza et al., (VAL 1981). The obtained vanadium abundance is in the range 3.91-4.08 dex. It is shown that the mean vanadium abundance was closest to the abundance predicted in the HOLMU model.
