The decay or alignment of the magnetic moment in neutron stars, which may cause the magnetic torques to diminish with time, is investigated. Assuming that a pulsar's torque diminishes exponentially with a decay time constant tauD, it is shown that tauD may be determined empirically from the second time-derivative measurements of pulsar rotational frequency. Estimates of tauD are presented for a selected group of pulsars having the required precision of timing measurements, and the level of precision required for these measurements is estimated.
