The results of using nonlinear optimization algorithms for processing the amplitude-time characteristics of radar echoes from underdense meteor trails are described. The data consist of 121 time-amplitude characteristics calculated for the Geminids, Quadrantids and Perseids. The resulting fineness of measurements permitted detection of a correlation between braking and velocity of a meteor, underscoring the hypothesis that small meteor bodies experience significant deceleration in the atmosphere. Also, a tentative relationship was established between the initial radius of the meteor trail and the ambipolar diffusion coefficient.
