The X-ray position of LMC X-1, derived from multiple ROSAT-HRI
observations, confirms that the optical counterpart is a peculiar O7 III
star, designated as #32 by Cowley et al. (1978). This resolves a
long-standing uncertainty whether this star or the nearby supergiant
R148 is associated with LMC X-1.
