There are shortcomings in the present available method of determining the Doppler factor δ based on a uniform model of synchrotron self-Compton mechanism and linking the observed fluxes at individual points of the radio and X-ray spectra. In this paper we develop a new model which is nonuniform and uses the entire radio and X spectra. We applied this new model to 3C 273. We found δ ~ 31.3 and a jet inclination θ ~ 1.5°. Hence we deduce an intrinsic brightness temperature of ~ 1.5 × 1010 K, so alleviating the difficulty of ``Compton catastrophe''. Our determination of δ being based on a more realistic nonuniform model and on a larger number of datapoints, should be more reliable.
