Results are presented for a determination of total vertical absorption in the atmospheric window centered at a wavelength of 460 microns. Measurements were performed at a height of approximately 3000 m with an n-InSb detector. The zenith atmospheric optical depth at 460 microns is found to be equal to 1.8 times the absolute humidity measured in grams per cubic centimeter. The measurements suggest a water-vapor absorption coefficient of 55 dB/km at 460 microns under standard conditions at a scale height of 1.5 km.
